Last June our son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Instead of seeing this as something negative we as a family have chosen to let it make us all stronger people. We have made it our goal to try to inspire and educate people in order to make life a little easier for the kids who battle this disease everyday. We know that Type 1 Diabetes isn't the only disease out there, but it's the disease that impacts our life and we have become passionate about trying to reach out to the community to help other diabetics and to educate people about diabetes- there are so many misconceptions- We know there are other ways than motocross, such as being part of the JDRF and the ADA, which we are, but we wanted to do more. Our son wanted to do more. When he rides he teaches others that he's not so different, and teaches himself that life is just as good as it was before, maybe better because he's stronger now. When he rides he shows the world that he can do anything he wants and he knows that this will give hope to the next little boy or girl sitting in the hospital being told they'll have to have shots for now on to stay alive. The JDRF(Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation) helped him so much by coming to the hospital with their 'bag of hope', full of things that he would now need. A meter, a carb counting book, and hope. He told us that day that he wanted to do that one day for other kids. He wanted to be the one to bring the hope. We feel that each time he rides that is what he does. One day we hope that his riding will also benefit the JDRF to help them continue to do the wonderful things that they do-
That's the why behind Type 1 Racing- we hope to form a team of racers who race for hope, a cure, and for every kid that will sit in a hospital bed feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders. We will be doing as much as we can to have Type 1 Racing help the JDRF and ADA find a cure!.
